HANDY PATTERN

THE PROJECT

Handy Pattern is another of my school projects. The goal of this project was to pick 2 words out of 10 from a random word generator to create a brand identity that could be iconic and incorporate branded business materials and advertising. Although I don’t recall the other 8 words, i wanted to keep with my outdoor theme and I had fixated on the word pattern and felt “Handy” worked well enough to create a brand. My goal was to create a simple design that would fit in with other brands in the same business category such as Sitka, First Lite, and Kuiu.

INITIAL DESIGN

I started off with some thumbnail sketches that I had spent maybe an hour working on. Some ideas had clear inspiration from other brands while others were whole original. I was focused on trying to include appropriate imagery in using a hand and felt I had drawn a good enough design to begin building the foundation of my business.

Print Materials

Once I settled on my design and the colors I would be using, I was tasked with creating the print materials for this business. Creating a business card, letterhead, and mail advertisement.

DIGITAL MEDIA

In this section you will find digital media that I created for Demeter Machine. This includes a video advertisement a homepage web design mockup, and social media advertisements.

Handy Pattern Commercial

I was tasked with creating a video commercial for this assignment. I needed to stay on brand while conveying critical information to potential customers. I needed to keep this ad visually appealing, however, I decided to challenge myself to create a visually engaging commercial using one continuous shot. I used my brother as my actor and I am satisfied that I was able to achieve my goal.

Website

I was responsible for the design of the company website. To this end I worked closely with my programmer to ensure our final product was usable by both the customers and employees when ordering equipment, parts, or tracking

I designed this website using adobe illustrator.

I didn’t need to write and code a fully functioning website for this part of my project. I did, however, need to design what the initial homepage for this business was going to look like. Considering the demographic I was targeting, and researching competitor designs, this was the end result. I wanted to keep the design simple and use appropriate imagery that would reflect the color schemes for the brand while also being visually appealing enough to engage the use to continue browsing on my webpage.

SOCIAL MEDIA ADS

The following images are my designs for Facebook advertisements designed as though they were being viewed on a mobile device. I was tasked with using stock photos and had to ensure that my advertising would stay on brand. Initially I found the smaller space to be more limiting, however, I drew inspiration from existing brands to create effective designs for my project.
