VIDEO

A Home for the Day

This video was created as part of my internship project. Home for the Day is a business in Saint Cloud, MN that organizes group activities for seniors to keep them active, provide entertainment, and give them a space to socialize outside of their homes for a morning or afternoon. My first goal for this project was recreating the logo using Adobe Illustrator then animating the logo using Adobe After Effects. My only challenge in this part of the process was identifying the font types that were already in use. I couldn’t deviate from the brand identity that had already been created by substituting similar font types. Eventually I found proper matches.

My next step was to work on the actual video, I planned on shooting an interview style video and supplementing this with B-roll of their members. This allowed me to get the right message to future customers while showcasing engaging content. This presented my first filming challenge as not all members consented to being filmed and I needed to frame each shot to omit the members that didn’t consent.

DEMETER MACHINE

DEMETER MACHINE is a fictional company that was created for my final school project. I was tasked with creating the brand identity of this business then following through with creating several forms of advertising, including a 30 second commercial. I was to only use royalty free stock footage and music. I was also tasked with enlisting AI to help write a short script to advertise this business, and then use an AI voice generator to narrate this commercial.

Day of Development

Day of Development is a public speaking group that hosted an event in Watertown, SD in the spring of 2023. The organization reached out to Lake Area Tech and asked if any students would be interested in creating some promotional videos that could be used for future events. My advisor capitalized on this opportunity and turned it into a final project for his students. Everyone attended the event and shot B-Roll from around the event and pooled everything into one location. Everyone had access to this pool to create a video. Our goal was for each student to create one 60 seconds commercial with bookend logo, narration, and appropriate music, as well as two 15 second videos that could be used as advertisements on social media platforms.

Interview

Students were tasked with interviewing other students or members of faculty about their experiences at Lake Area Tech or why they chose to attend as a student. I was an online student so I opted to interview myself for this assignment. Like most of my videos, I had fun setting up and framing the shots I wanted for this project.

Storyboard Challenge

This was the first challenge after learning basic shot composition. Students were tasked with writing a silent short story and sketch out the storyboard for said story. The “hero” needed an event to lead up to a obstacle for that hero to overcome and then showcase how they learned from that problem and demonstrate our capability in the process of shot composition using no less than 15 separate scenes.

Logo Animations

Animated logos can help tell your audience more about your brand. It can even help legitimize your brand by showing your audience you care about how you present yourself. This project was to learn how to use Adobe After Effects to create some logo animations. After Effects quickly became my favorite software from the Adobe Creative Suite because of its utility. Animating 2d logos has been fun and I enjoy the challenge of introducing an audience to the brand in a manner that is relevant to that brands story.

ARCHIVE

Montana Elk 2020

Before I began my education at Lake Area Tech, I loved filming my hunting experiences. My goal is to share with my friends and family the experiences I had, especially when it came to a large and meticulously planned hunt such as this one. Although this video no longer portrays my camera skills and editing abilities accurately, I believe it is important to acknowledge how much I have grown in this short amount of time. I would make many changes to this video today, but I still feel it has its place in my portfolio as a showcase of my passion that predates my training and education at school.
